Commentary is optional.

Very much looking forward to a special show with MV & EE and WOODS happening on Thursday May 13 in NYC at THE ABRONS ART CENTER of the HENRY STREET SETTLEMENT (http://www.henrystreet.org/) The show is part of THE JOSHUA LIGHT SHOW RESIDENCY there featuring original psychedelic light works with by JOSHUA WHITE and his crew over four nights. JOHN LEVIN Five Years On CD sonoriti.es son2 $8
from the label: "The "D-word" comes in for a lot of understanding and misunderstanding these days, but Brattleboro's John Levin (Ill Wind Ensemble, Greenhill Builders) practices the Drone in one of its purest -- and most minimal -- forms. These studio tracks were recorded in one take using nothing more than a 30-plus year old Arp Odyssey and a delay pedal. Four cuts range in length from just over two minutes to just over half an hour. Edition of 100 color-faced CDs in hand-stamped recycled cover.

THE DOOZER Conversations / Stone House 7" Doozer Industries DOOZ1 $6
from the label: "7" single on Doozer Industries. A foray into observational conversations and the white persona. Double A side single with non album tracks which are never to be repeated 'Stone Houses' & 'Conversations'. Built to serve the 7" format and all its glory. Mixed and mastered by Kramer."

V/A THIS IS COWTOWN VOL #4 7" Anyway AWR028 $3
Who can deny the wondrous power and beauty of the ultimate expression of 'less is more' found in the mere creation of a 'four band comp seven inch'? And this one is among the finest examples of the format. Not the prime era of Bela's OUT OF COWTOWN series, (hell, he couldnt even get the title right on the jacket) so it went relatively unsung in it's day. But this record, with all of it's weird early quark work on the label, mispellings, handwritten glop, has four fine tracks of the era. Including MONSTER TRUCK FIVE amped up version of MIKE REP's 'Rocekt Music On' and also an early THOMAS JEFFERSON SLAVE APTS version of 'Foolish'. Also a brilliant studio rough of 'Floorboards' by MOVIOLA (spelled 'Muviola' here) and a little country punk from the GUN SHY MINISTERS. Too much for too little. Hopeless and beautiful.

MOXIE #1 fanzine MOXIE1 $2
Oh, the pleasure of old print. DAWN SUTTER's single issue of MOXIE, 'the magazine that takes no guff'" though slight in size (42 pages), packs a huge 'punch' in relevant coverage that predicts much of what was to come. Great interviews with TOODY COLE (DEAD MOON), ALEC EMPIRE (DHR), CHRIS WARE & ARCHER PREWITT, EDITH FROST. From the window of 1998? perhaps (no reference date in the issue anywhere). Plus reports from GAIL O'HARA, GILMORE TAMNEY, and a single review by RON (f-in) DECKER!! and a live review from JOSH MADELL!! Now you know you are on the inside.

KJETIL D BRANDSDAL Rogalands Lydigste + Gitar Fingling Metal Art Disco CD $10
One large dose in his stretching catalog, this nicely presented digipak edition is a reissue of two lp's of guitar mangling and transport. 'Rogalands Lydigste' was issued on LP by SCOTT FOUST's forward minded SWILL RADIO and make up the front cover art, and first half of this CD, The remaing tracks are from the self releasd lp which featured his first solo-recordings.

RON HOUSE Obsessed CD Moses Carryout MC1 $8
hey check out the new lower price.... just stumbled across another box of this gem. "Released in 2002, Mr House's first proper solo album is a song cycle that drops his snarling punk trip to deliver this in folkie songwriter mode… bearing witness to break-up, distraction, and depression. Therefore it is an amazing listen."

CATHERINE RIBEIRO + ALPES Rat Debile et l'Homme CD Mantra MNTR85 $14
ALPES heavy rock infused with a sense of destiny by the dramatic and insistent CATHERINE RIBEIRO. Any chance to experience an impassioned and emotional truth in another language, truth beyond language, is worthy of stopping your stride for a moment. Though sometimes seemingly so bare and self aware, the music they laid down in this era of the 1970s, and probably still are peddling today, is a revelation. As an added plus, you can also learn about the COSMOPHONE, a room-sized musical instrument invented in the days of ANALOG. (http://cosmophone.in2p3.fr/)

DOS / BLACK PIG LIBERATION FRONT split 7" Pop Rocket PRDOS $6
from the label: " this split-single based on text assemblage by denis mahoney... rhizomed with a radical sense of play into patterns turning out unending tapestries of desire from the likes of di prima, artaud, bey...their intense passion to exist and create a culture of resistance." the black pig liberation front has also been performed live in multimedia format in nyc (forthcoming live release dec. 96 on pop rocket records) and new london, connecticut's hygienic fest by the black pig liberation front. the poem itself has been posterized (painting by adam cook - a special edition of the poster in smaller scale w/ different paint by cook is included in the single release) and released through the literary renaissance, louisville, ky. the dos cover photograph is by leah singer."

ORIGINAL: SINS Skeletons in the Garage CD Spare Me SPME008 $10
Deep blown out 18 track collection of rarities and b-sides from BROTHER JT's 1980s outfit. Includes outtakes, demos, and a cover or two (CREATION, BEACH BOYS). Been checking out JT's video shorts on the interbox too... (http://www.myspace.com/brotherjt) amazing.

buttercup show alert!!

wish i could make my way to this one... perhaps some of you can...
from the band:
one show only!!!! come and share some diy power pop from a world class rock outfit. from dinners with record producers to paid and not paid for acclaim in european and domestic magazines, the band brushed up against the music machine and said "huh?........" this friday is all that the cup ever hoped to be. nailing down the low end with jim and dan is rock icon tom baker, a man who knows that rock'n'roll is nothing but a party.

brattleboro time machine - dec 04 2009

on a personal note: most folks know that my neighbors and i suffered a fire on this day five years ago. five years, so much can happen in five years. over the past few weeks i have been taking stock and looking at my world as it is now, and thinking about where this current path started five years ago. i have to admit that it is terrifying to lose everything, and also equally and sometimes more terrifying to replenish, take stock, and start again. i also had to learn to accept help along the way, blindly realizing that this is how we are meant to be with each other. and that is just the start as i also found that the lessons have been countless and nearly daily for me.

i have no doubt that i would not be as stable and functional as i am today without the help of many many folks in various degrees: the family, old & new friends, bandmates, townsfolk, area conspirators, unknown donators from past worlds, and of course most especially by the support of the wife's unconditional acceptance, hope, and positive angle.

as a measure of gratitude and as an expression of self-support, i have constructed one of the 'instant' sculptures that sunburned usually constructs before the start of our sets. i sometimes think of them as 'time machines', but honestly these pieces never have any specific intention or disucussion... the process is the intention i suppose... and although we have probably built hundreds of these in the past few years throughout the uk, europe, and the states, i think that brattleboro has yet to get one. therefore i stepped out of the role of collaborator on this one, and erected it myself in our new backyard. here is a photo taken a few nights ago on a rainy 'fullish' moon.

like all of us, it will stand as long as it manages to, and perhaps get some help if it starts to fall too.
and if you would like to come and visit it, and drink a cup of hot cider please drop a line, or just drop by.

with warm regards
ron
